When Spirit and Science Collide: Epsom Salt Baths

Many spiritual practices recommend epsom salt baths for energetic cleansing. There may be variations to the recommendation, but it usually involves soaking in an epsom salt bath (with or without baking soda) at least weekly, leaving at least 1-2 days in between soaks. The idea is that epsom salt baths help to cleanse lower energies and repair your energetic body. You could also make it a ritual by setting an intention over the salted water before soaking, using candles, or adding essential oils, plants, flowers, or crystals (research the crystal before putting it in water - some will dissolve and some can be toxic).

I’ve recently sought support for a sluggish lymphatic system which is very common for women. Stay with me… Your lymphatic system is throughout your entire body and removes toxins, cellular waste, and is a major part of your immune system. The lymphatic system has hundreds of lymph nodes; you may be aware of the lymph nodes on the sides of your neck that get swollen when you are sick. To support the lymphatic system it is recommend, among other things like deep breathing and exercise, to take weekly epsom salt baths. Epsom salt baths? Yes! Weekly epsom salt baths are recommended for energetic cleansing AND for lymphatic support.

The spiritual community believes epsom salt baths help remove lower energies from your system while the scientific community says epsom salt baths help your lymphatic system function optimally (to do its job of flushing out cellular waste). In my opinion, lower energy EQUALS cellular waste. Or rather, cellular waste has a lower energy frequency that some people can intuitively sense.

I’m not sure if the epsom salt bath recommendation in the spiritual community originated from the scientific community. To me, it doesn’t matter. It’s the discovery of uncorrelated information across completely unrelated sources to prove the same conclusion (in this instance, epsom salt baths are good for your body) that blows my mind. It’s a reminder to cross-pollinate learning to allow these types of discovery opportunities. Don’t just study woo-woo. Study anything that interests you. Study every subject that fascinates you. Study it all and look for the commonalities. If you keep looking you’ll find them.

If you are interested in trying weekly epsom salt baths, the recommendation is 2 cups of epsom salt and 1 cup of baking soda in a very warm bath. Soak all the way to your neck for 30ish minutes. Or you could soak your feet (up your leg as far as you can) by using about 1/8 the amount of the epsom salt and baking soda.
